What is a Passenger Endorsement?

A Passenger (P) endorsement is required for CDL holders operating certain commercial vehicles designed to transport passengers.

Drivers obtaining a Passenger endorsement for the first time are subject to the federal Entry-Level Driver Training (ELDT) requirements. The required training must be completed through a provider listed on the FMCSA Training Provider Registry before the state-administered Passenger skills test.

1. Complete Your Theory Training Online

Students begin with the required Passenger Endorsement ELDT theory training online.

Online training provides the flexibility to complete the coursework around work and personal schedules while covering required passenger transportation and safety topics.

FMCSA requires theory students to demonstrate proficiency with an overall assessment score of at least 80%.

2. On-Site Behind-the-Wheel Training

Unlike Hazmat ELDT, the Passenger endorsement requires behind-the-wheel training in addition to theory training.

That's where Precision Driver Training's mobile approach makes a difference.

We come to you for the hands-on portion of your training. Behind-the-wheel training must be conducted in a representative vehicle for the endorsement being sought.

3. Passenger Vehicle Training

Our hands-on instruction focuses on helping drivers safely and confidently operate passenger-carrying commercial vehicles.

Training emphasizes areas such as vehicle inspection, passenger safety, vehicle control, maneuvering, proper positioning, safe operation, and preparation for the applicable CDL skills test.

4. Prepare for Your Passenger Skills Test

After completing the required training, students can move forward with the applicable Passenger endorsement testing process.

FMCSA requires the state to verify completion of the required ELDT before administering the Passenger skills test.
