Online Hazmat ELDT Training- GET READY FOR YOUR H ENDORSEMENT

Need to add a Hazardous Materials (H) endorsement to your CDL?

Precision Driver Training provides convenient Hazmat Entry-Level Driver Training (ELDT) for CDL holders throughout Virginia. Our Hazmat ELDT theory training is completed online, allowing you to complete the required coursework around your work and personal schedule.

For drivers obtaining a Hazmat endorsement for the first time, federal ELDT regulations require completion of Hazmat theory training through a provider listed on the FMCSA Training Provider Registry before taking the state Hazmat knowledge test.

How our Hazmat ELDT Training Works

1. Complete your Training Online

Our Hazmat ELDT program is completed online, giving you the flexibility to work through the required training without traveling to a classroom.

Unlike Class A and Class B ELDT, the federal ELDT requirement for the Hazardous Materials endorsement is theory training only—there is no ELDT behind-the-wheel requirement specifically for the H endorsement.

2. Complete the Required Training

The Hazmat ELDT curriculum prepares drivers on required hazardous-materials topics and provides the training necessary to satisfy the federal ELDT requirement before testing.

3. Training Completion is Reported to FMCSA-TPR

After successful completion, required training information is submitted electronically to the FMCSA Training Provider Registry (TPR).

Virginia DMV verifies ELDT completion electronically before allowing a first-time applicant to take the Hazmat knowledge exam. Virginia DMV does not accept a paper training certificate as a substitute for the TPR record.

4. Check the TPR

5. Take the Virginia Hazmat Knowledge Exam

Once the required ELDT has been completed and reported, you can proceed with the Virginia Hazmat knowledge exam.

Virginia DMV currently requires applicants to pass the Hazmat knowledge exam and complete the applicable security/background-check requirements to receive the endorsement.
